In a news release from Bill Law the Goshen County Fire Warden, he has asked us to pass on a reminder about a very important topic.

With the coming of a new season, many farmers and other property owners will want to start burning ditches and begin clean up.

The Fire Warden has asked the KGOS/KERM News Department to pass along this reminder:

Please take just a minute to call the Torrington Dispatch Center at 532-7001.

Let them know of your plans to do some burning of ditches and debris at your property.

Then if a good Samaritan sees the fire and calls in to report it, the Dispatch Center can advise them of any controlled burns going on in that area.

If dispatch doesn’t have any record of a controlled burn in the reported area, the Dispatch Center has no alternative but to send the appropriate fire department to your location.

Warden Law says that while there is no specific State or County Laws currently on the books to cover this scenario, you might want  to keep in mind that if you haven’t reported a controlled burn and an accident involving a fire truck and another motorist occurs while responding to your location, the possibility of some litigation could come about.

This is simply offered by the Fire Warden’s Office as a request for property owners to help avoid any problems by calling before you burn. Again that phone number to call is 532-7001.
