Goshen County Chamber Ambassadors and about 15 members of the Friends and Family of Deployed Soldiers committee recently boxed up over 150 pounds of donated items for local National Guard soldiers deployed to the Middle East.
The Torrington Rotary Club paid shipping costs for the 20 care packages addressed to four units from Goshen County. A $300 donation from the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church, in Torrington was used to purchase items in addition to donations placed in collection boxes at various businesses in Torrington and Lingle.
Last June the 115th Fires Brigade, which includes 42 soldiers from Goshen County, was mobilized as part of the largest Wyoming Army National Guard deployment in history. The yearlong deployment includes missions in Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Soldier care packages containing items such as beef jerky, travel size toiletries, candy, foot powder and baby wipes are a way to show community support and boost moral.
Chamber Ambassadors along with members of the Friends and Family of Deployed soldiers boxed up the first care package shipment in October. Thanks to generous community contributions, 300 pounds of goods were sent to Goshen County soldiers.
“The community-wide donations were impressive,” said Pam Anderson, who co-chairs the Ambassadors with Justin Davis.
“We thank all who helped Goshen County community show its support of the soldiers and their families for their service to our country over the past year.”
