You can get a foretaste of Award Winning Nashville Songwriter and Flamenco Guitarist Andy Hackbarth at the farmers market in downtown Torrington tomorrow morning. Andy said he was born and raised in Colorado and studied classical guitarist in college and moved to Nashville four years ago and is in town for a Saturday Evening Fund raiser starting around 7PM at the Goshen County Fairgrounds. When asked about the Hackbarth name Andy said he personally has not lived in Torrington but said his Uncle Ron Hackbarth would probably be familiar to a lot of people. Ron coached the Torrington Trailblazer Football team a good number of years back and he still has a cousin living here. When asked, Andy told us he was here for a reason.
You are invited to meet Andy at the Frontier Shelter on the Fair Grounds for Free Hamburgers, Hot Dogs and Pepsi. And enjoy a free evening of great entertainment.
Construction continues and the building just keeps getting bigger. The new Torrington Fire Hall project has a lot of heads turning and questions coming. In a visit with a member of the Torrington Fire Hall Joint Powers Board, we learned that the building project is still on schedule. Phase one of the Fire Hall was turned over to the Volunteers in late January of this year. Following the demolition of the old fire hall, and what seemed like a long weather delay in early spring, construction began on Phase two. General Contractor Ken Farrier of Goshen County Construction has had to pull off the project from time to time to let ground water from rain storms dry up only to see another storm slow them again. Despite all of that, progress on the two south apparatus bays and the administrative side of the new facility is moving right along according to our source and the completion date for the entire project is targeted for early 2010. Fire Department personnel will be hosting several open house events to let the public view the new Torrington Fire Hall.
The Torrington City Office announces that tomorrow will be the final Saturday service hours being offered at the Bailer Building this season. If you have questions about the City Services and hours, you are invited to call the City Office at 532-5666.
The Torrington Fire Department Water Rescue Team was called out around 6:45 yesterday evening. The Torrington Dispatch Center had received a call about an adult male trapped on a log in the North Platte River near the diversion dam below Pioneer Park. Fire Chief Rick Donbraska said the Water Rescue Team was able to affect a successful rescue of the individual. No reason was given as to how or why he had become marooned on the log. The man was transported to Community Hospital for further evaluation. Chief Donbraska reminds everyone that near the diversion dam should be avoided at all time and especially during this time of higher water levels.
