Unfortunately there was no fly over yesterday for the Veterans Day Celebrations, but the Parade went off as scheduled. Shortly after the parade the celebration continued at the Veterans Memorial on the south side of the court house. The Torrington High school band sounded great playing our National Anthem. Reverend Hill gave the opening prayer and General Don Haugt spoke and urged all veterans to tell their stories so that families could pass them on. Directly after a 21 gun salute and Taps (Played by Rusty Winget) a closing prayer was given from the Presbyterian Church. A Thank You is in order to Oz Brewer for putting this all together. Over all I felt our Veterans were honored.
Some retired and longtime Wyoming paid firefighters may find the amount of their state-managed pensions jeopardized. The Firemen’s Plan a retirement fund faces up to a $30 million dollar deficit for firefighters hired before July 1, 1981, within the next two years. ”We have people — longtime firefighters and widows — that rely on that money to see them through,” said Jon Narva, president of Cheyenne Professional Firefighters Local 279.
And coming up tomorrow: Everyone is welcome to the Wyoming Department of Corrections Graduation Ceremony this is the first Graduation class for Security Personnel that have completed nine weeks of intense training. The Ceremony will be held at Camp Guernsey this Friday at1:30.
