Working Women are reshaping America’s families and economy and what it means to policymakers.

Women now make up half of all workers in the United States, a threshold never reached before in the history of our nation. Mothers are now the primary breadwinners –making as much or more than their spouses or doing it all on their own in nearly 4 in 10 families.

A policy roadmap was written in response to the plea for detailed solutions that will help American workers and families meet the duel demands of work and family and in turn, will strengthen our economy and the well-being of our families and our children.

Here are some key areas needed to make important changes.

Updating basic labor standards to account for the fact that most workers also have family responsibilities by instituting predictable and flexible workplace schedules, ensuring that workers have access to paid family and medical leave, and establishing the right to paid sick days for all workers

Improving basic fairness in our workplace by ending discrimination against all workers, including pregnant women and caregivers

Providing direct support to working families with child care and eldercare needs

These issues are essential to stabilizing the middle class and improving our economy. Businesses are more profitable when they adopt these policies, and families are more economically stable when they have access to workplace flexibility, paid family leave and care giving support.

—————————

There is a new business in town called Dirty Doggy Grooming here are the owners Shari Bartlett and Sarah Davis to tell us why they have decided to start this business.

(To listen to the interview click on the news link above)

If you need Dog or Cat Grooming services, give them a try. Dirty Doggy Grooming is located on Main Street in the strip mall with Java Jar and Fancy Nails. Stop in or call for an appointment 575-3114.

Goshen County Chamber Ambassadors and about 15 members of the Friends and Family of Deployed Soldiers committee recently boxed up over 150 pounds of donated items for local National Guard soldiers deployed to the Middle East.

The Torrington Rotary Club paid shipping costs for the 20 care packages addressed to four units from Goshen County. A $300 donation from the First Wyoming United Presbyterian Church, in Torrington was used to purchase items in addition to donations placed in collection boxes at various businesses in Torrington and Lingle.

Last June the 115th Fires Brigade, which includes 42 soldiers from Goshen County, was mobilized as part of the largest Wyoming Army National Guard deployment in history. The yearlong deployment includes missions in Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Soldier care packages containing items such as beef jerky, travel size toiletries, candy, foot powder and baby wipes are a way to show community support and boost moral.

Chamber Ambassadors along with members of the Friends and Family of Deployed soldiers boxed up the first care package shipment in October. Thanks to generous community contributions, 300 pounds of goods were sent to Goshen County soldiers.

“The community-wide donations were impressive,” said Pam Anderson, who co-chairs the Ambassadors with Justin Davis.

“We thank all who helped Goshen County community show its support of the soldiers and their families for their service to our country over the past year.”

On Friday SourceGas Distribution LLC announced it has filed a request with the Wyoming Public Service Commission to increase the non-gas component of its rates to cover the increased costs associated with providing natural gas service to 77,250 customers across Wyoming.

If the filing is approved, the increase for the average residential and small commercial customer would be approximately $8.28 per month or approximately 11.6 % on their average monthly bill. The actual increase to customers’ individual monthly bills could be higher or lower depending upon their current rate area and amount of gas consumed.
