30th Annual Goshen County 2 Shot Goose Hunt a Success

It was a very successful 30th Annual Goshen County 2 shot Goose Hunt, from the art show to the various activities throughout Friday and Saturday, December 8th and 9th. With Wyoming Governor Matt Mead in attendance once again along with other state dignitaries, the 2 Shot brought hunters from near and far into Goshen County. This year’s competition saw forty teams of two hunters each, where hunters are allowed two shots each to bag their geese; the team that bags the most, wins. In the case that multiple teams bag all four geese, the overall weight is used to determine the winner.

Not only is this a great sporting event, it is also an event that raises money for various habitat and conservation projects as well as activities and causes throughout Goshen County. This year was no exception, as proceeds from two of Saturday evening’s live auction items went toward helping two local families; Bailey Williams, who underwent heart transplant surgery and is currently hospitalized due to complications; and Torrington High School teacher Juel Afdahl, who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and is currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.

“It was a great year,” Goshen County 2 Shot committee member Ron Miller said. “The event was well supported and they had an above average hunt.”

Results for the 2017 Goshen County 2 Shot Goose Hunt:

Smallest Goose - Bob Royal, with a goose weighing in at 3.56 lbs

3rd Place - Brady Koerwitz and Chad Craig

2nd Place - Kevin Hansen and Rory McManus

1st Place - Mike Jensen of Cheyenne and Dave Sweet of Cody, guided by Ryan Kath.  Kath took home a Browning Maxus for his role as guide, and Jensen and Sweet were each awarded a Browning Citori.
