The home of LaGrange resident Alice Yuill was destroyed in an electrical fire

The home of 83 year old LaGrange resident, Alice Yuill burned down in the early hours of Christmas morning.  Yuill is currently staying with her grandson Brandon Yuill and his wife, Sarah in Gering until she is able to find new living arrangements.

Sarah recounted the incident stating that Alice woke to the smell of smoke to find a fire had started in the wall behind her pellet stove, which was determined to be an electrical fire.  She used her house phone to call 911 and was able to escape the fire with a minor injury as some debris fell from the ceiling, burning her ear.

According to Brenda Yuill, member of the LaGrange Fire Department and Alice’s daughter-in-law, the LaGrange Fire Department was first on the scene where they used 22,000 gallons of water in an attempt contain the fire. They then called for mutual aid form the Hawk Springs Fire Department who brought in three trucks.  The LaGrange Department remained on scene for the duration and released Hawk Springs once the fire was under control.

Sarah mentioned that Alice’s immediate needs are taken care of at the moment, however if anyone is interested in assisting Alice as she moves forward and into a new home, contact Sarah at 308-641-7862.
