WAXLER TO NATION CHAMPIONSHIPS
04 May 2012ZACH WAXLER TO NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
Lancer golfer, Zach Waxler, finished the 2011-12 season as the Region IX men's golf champion. His 73.8 stroke average placed him ninth in the District and earned him a trip to Newton, Kansas for the NJCAA National Tournament. District 1 is comprised of six states; Arizona, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming. The Tournament will be at the Sand Creek Station Golf Course located about 30 miles north of Wichita, KS at Newton. Play begins on May 14 and will continue though that week. Zach transferred to EWC from the University of Wyoming at the end of his first semester in Laramie. Coach Casey Jones credits the small class size and the personal care of the faculty and staff at EWC for helping Zach find success. Because of his participation in the National Tournament, he will have a great opportunity to play golf at a Division 1 school next year. EWC GOLF TEAM FINISHES SEASON STRONG
01 May 2012EWC GOLFERS FINISH THE SPRING SEASON IN TRINIDAD
The Lancer golf team finished second to host Trinidad last week in their final tournament of the season. Final team scores were Trinidad 591 strokes, EWC 610 strokes with Waxler and Yost ending in a tie for fourth ast 149 strokes.The Lancers finished the season in second place for the year in Region IX and Zach Waxler was crowned as the Region IX individual champion. Waxler is awaiting other golfers in the district to finish play to see if he in the top ten. The top ten golfers are invited to the National Tournament. Mike Yost was second team all region, finishing in eighth place and Robbie Shipp finished ninth. Michael Martinez finished eleventh at the EWC tournament and is an Academic All-American with a 3.7 gpa.
