  • LANCER RODEO TEAM IN FIRST PLACE

    The Eastern Wyoming College men's rodeo team is in first place in the standings for the Central Rocky Mountain Region with two rodeos to go in the spring season.  The Lancers have 3,433.33 points to second place University of Wyoming's 3,230 and third place Gillette's 3,125.  The Lancers also have the lead in men's all-around and team roping.  The points are accumulated through the five fall and three spring rodeos each year with the top two teams and the top individuals qualifying for the College National Finals Rodeo to be held in Casper in mid-June.

    The remaining schedule is the Casper College Rodeo April 19-21 and the University of Wyoming Rodeo May 3-5.  The points earned at those two events will be added to the current standings.  The rodeo results and standings may be found at nira.com.

  • Winchell finishes third at CNFR

    EASTERN WYOMING COLLEGE RODEO TEAM MEMBER, SHELBY WINCHELL finished third in the nation in goat tying at the College National Finals Rodeo held in Casper.  Winchell from Scottsbluff, NE, qualified for the CNFR by finishing second in the Central Rocky Mountain Region for the 2011-12 season.  In the short go finals on Saturday night, Winchell stepped up to the challenge and posted the fastest time in the rodeo with a 6.1 second run.  Winchell has graduated from EWC and will attend Chadron State College in the fall.

  • EWC RODEO CNFR QUALIFIERS

    FOUR EWC RODEO TEAM MEMBERS QUALIFY FOR NATIONALS

    Four Eastern Wlyoming College Rodeo athletes qualified for the 2012 College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR).  Representing the Lancers are: Sheby Winchell, goat tying; Derek Weinreis, team roping; Levi O'Keeffe, team roping; and Riley Pruitt, tie down roping.  The CNFR will be in Casper, Wyoming on June 10-16, 2012.

    Sophomore Shelby Winchell of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, moved from fourth in the standings to second with her performance at the University of Wyoming rodeo last weekend.  Winchell won the Reserve Champion Goat Tying award for the Central Rocky Mountain Region.

    Freshmen Derek Weinreis of Beach, ND and Levi O"Keeffe of Mohall, ND won the Reserve Champion Award in their event; Weinreis as the header and O'Keeffe as the heeler.

    Sophomore Riley Pruitt from Gering, Nebraska will making his second trip to the CNFR in tie down roping.  Pruitt finished in third place in the regional standings to earn the right to rope in Casper in June.  Last year as a freshman, Pruitt finished fourth in the nation and has had an outstanding career at EWC.

  • EWC RODEO STANDINGS

    Several EWC cowgirls and cowboys are in the top ten in the Central Rocky Mountain Region of College Rodeo with two rodeos left on the spring schedule.  These athletics are attempting to accumulate enough points to qualify for the College National Finals in Casper in June.  Jordan McAllister is third in the bull riding standings, Lane Hall sits in seventh place in the saddle bronc event, and Troy Wilcox is fifth in tie down roping, seventh in team roping as a header, and fifth in the men's all-around.  Second place in team roping is held down by Derek Weinreis and Levi O'Keefe, with header Trae Seebaum in ninth place, and heelers Tee Hale and Trae Kautzman in sixth and eighth place.  The EWC Women's team has Shelby Winchell in fourth place in goat tying.  The EWC teams will be in Casper on April 20-22 and finish the season in Laramie on the last weekend in April.

    STATE TRACK MEET 2013

    Shanna Wilcoxson earned four gold medals at the Wyoming State Track Meet to lead the Burns Lady Broncs to the 2A team championship.  The Lingle-Fort Laramie Lady Doggers came home with the 1A team title for the second consecutive year.  The Torrington Lady Blazers placed fourth in a tough 3A field 12 points behind third place Powell.  Other team standings in 2A girls were Southeast ninth, Lusk tenth, and Pine Bluffs twelveth.  The Guernsey-Sunrise girls team was fifthteen in the 1A division.

    SPORTS vs WEATHER

    The final ten days of April saw continued conflict between outdoor sporting events and the weather.  On Tuesday the 23rd, one of two soccer matches was played with the boys match postponed until Saturday and the Best of the West Track Meet was completed in Scottsbluff.  The end of the week was great for the competitors with track meets on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, golf on Saturday and soccer on Friday and Saturday.

    BOYS & GIRLS OF SUMMER

    Torrington Little League is registering players for the 2013 season at torringtonbaseball.com.  The first games of the season for the major league will be May 13th, the minor league begins play May 22nd, and the tee ball on June 3rd.  The City Tournament is scheduled for June 24-26 and Torrington will host the Wyoming District 2 Tournament July 15-20.

    The Torrington Tigers will field two Babe Ruth teams this season with the 24 players split between a thirteen year old team and a fifteen and under team.  The plan is to participate in the Scottsbluff 23 Club league with games during the week and play in Legion JV tournaments on the weekends.  Torrington will host the Babe Ruth District Tournaments July 10-13 with a 13 year old division and 14/15 year old division.

    The Torrington Twisters 16 and under fast pitch softball team will play in their third tournament of the season this weekend in Broomfield, Colorado.  The Twisters plan to attend the Nebraska State Tournament July 5-7 and play in the Colorado State Tournament the following weekend.  Two national tournaments are on their schedule at the end of July.
