Torrington, Wyo. February 1, 2021 — At approximately 6:30PM on Sunday evening a Ford Escape jumped the curb and struck the front of GitFit Fitness Club in downtown Torrington, causing significant damage to the gym entryway and the vehicle. Torrington EMS responded to the scene of the accident. Luckily no injuries were reported.

“When they pulled into the parking space there was either a mechanical failure of the brakes or some unintentional action on the part of the driver,” said Torrington Police Chief Matt Johnson. “There was a fair bit of damage to the front of GitFit and a fair bit of damage to the (Ford) Escape as well.

Chief Johnson also reminded drivers to make sure their vehicles are in good running condition – especially during the winter months.

“Any more vehicles have pretty small foot wells. Especially in the winter time when we’re wearing heavy boots…heavy shoes…it’s easy to have something go wrong when we didn’t intend it.”
