Gas Leak Evacuates downtown area of Torrington

Residents and businesses evacuated Wednesday when two inch gas line is ruptured.

 

 

Wednesday, March 28th – An evacuation for many downtown businesses and homes as well as Torrington High School took place when a two inch gas line was ruptured near 23rd and West A at approximately 10:00 a.m. At approximately 11:15 a.m. high school students were heading back to school after it was deemed safe to do so by Black Hills Energy.

“Everything east and south of the 2300 block of West A should remain on evacuation until welding crews with Black Hills Energy are able to come in and fix the break. It will be approximately 1:00-2:00pm before it is safe to return. We will keep you updated as we receive further notification,” said Goshen County Emergency Management Coordinator Shelly Kirchhefer.

 

UPDATE: As of approximately 2:00 p.m. Black Hills Energy shut down the gas line and the evacuation was lifted.
