Pine Bluffs, Wyo. (RELEASE from High West Energy) January 16, 2020 — High West Energy has set a goal to generate 50 percent of power from renewable sources by 2024.

High West Energy Cooperative is announcing our commitment to an innovative and proactive plan to increase the amount of renewable energy used by High West members while also focusing on maintaining or reducing rates.
Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association – which sells power to High West and numerous other co-ops in Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming – first announced their Responsible Energy Plan in July 2019. On Wednesday, Tri-State board chairman Rick Gordon and CEO Duane Highley provided details of that plan as Tri-State and its members chart a course into the new future of energy.
One of the plan’s most important and exciting details is the goal to generate 50 percent of all power from renewable sources by 2024. Tri-State’s plan will be to achieve this renewable target while also maintaining or reducing rates.
“Like many industries, advances in technology have ushered in a period of transition for electricity generation,” said High West CEO and General Manager Brian Heithoff. “Renewable energy has benefitted tremendously from these advances. Our industry is crossing a vital threshold where renewable energy will soon be as affordable as traditional sources like coal and natural gas. We are excited by the prospect of achieving this 50 percent goal while continuing to deliver the reliable, affordable power our members expect and deserve.”
When Tri-State first unveiled their Responsible Energy Plan last year, they acknowledged that successfully implementing this agenda would require working with a wide group of stakeholders, including High West Energy, to address a wide range of challenges.
Earlier this month, Tri-State announced a series of decisions to make this plan a reality.
