Fire at Roy's Cold Storage

image description

February 3, 2019--

Torrington Fire was dispatched to a structure fire at Roy’s Cold Storage on Saturday, February 2nd. The fire was located in an inaccessible attic space above refrigerated storage. Despite efforts of firefighters to extinguish the fire, it continued to spread through the attic areas of multiple roof and ceiling spaces. The fire continued to extend from the roof of the refrigeration area into the floor joist area of the work/retail area of the two-story structure. The structure was a total loss.

TVFD Chief, Lance Petsch said, “When we arrived, there was fire through the roof already, so you know, in terms of what time it started and how it started, we don’t know that at this time. The State Fire Marshal came to investigate so depending on when we get his  report, we’ll be able to know what he thought it was. That was a situation where when we arrived, we battled it as best we could. We called for additional help.

Mutual aid was requested and received from Lingle VFD, Yoder VFD, Veteran VFD, Camp Guernsey FD and Morrill (NE) VFD. Scottsbluff City Fire Department assisted with their aerial platform. Assistance was received from Torrington PD, Torrington EMS, Torrington Electric Dept, Torrington Water Dept, Torrington Streets Dept and TDS. Many members of the community kindly dropped off food, water and such for the firefighters. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
