Laramie Range, WY July 27, 2022 — The second wildfire of the season in the Laramie Peak area has burned almost 400 acres since Monday.

According to the US Forest Service, fire activity was minimal with fire behavior consisting of backing and creeping; resulting in little growth of the fire. The extensive aerial firefighting efforts on Monday and Tuesday helped keep this fire to the current 396 acres. Two Hotshot crews and one Type 2 Handcrew worked the north side of the fire to establish handline along the fire’s edge.

The Torrington Volunteer Fire Department sent Wildland 1 and a crew of 3 firefighters to the scene on Wednesday morning.

An evacuation notice is in place for Bear Creek Road between the Garrett intersection and Friend Park. Pre-evacuation for Friend Park, and Fetterman to Garrett Ranch. The American Red Cross shelter in Rock River has been closed. Initial investigation of the Sugarloaf Fire origin indicates that the wildfire is likely human caused. Anyone with information can call the Forest Service Law Enforcement Tip Line, 303-275-5266. The fire origin is near the terminus of Forest Road 637 and the Cow Creek Trailhead.
