The recent stabbing incident that occurred in Ft. Laramie, Wyoming is allegedly over a dispute about a stolen vehicle title.
On May 23rd, it was reported to Goshen County Sheriff’s Office that someone had entered the home of 26-year-old Jamie Snyder, of Fort Laramie. It was further reported that the unknown person or persons had then entered a locked lock box in the home and taken a title belonging to Mr. Snyder. The vehicle title was for a 2001 black Chevrolet Silverado pickup, registered to Snyder. Allegedly, someone had told Snyder that 32-year-old Wade Erschabek, of Guernsey had been the person who was responsible for taking the title. This information is according to an affidavit of probably cause obtained from the Eighth Judicial Circuit Court.
On May 24th, Goshen County Sheriff’s Investigator, Kory Fleenor, reported that he was notified by Torrington Central Dispatch of a male who had been stabbed. He was further advised the suspect of the stabbing was Jamie Snyder and he had already fled from the scene. The victim of the stabbing is identified as Wade Erschabek.
A witness to the stabbing reported that he and Erschabek had been traveling north on Main Street in Fort Laramie, when Snyder allegedly passed them, turned around, and aggressively followed the witness and Erschabek. Snyder reportedly parked behind vehicle to go talk to Mr. Snyder. He was apparently standing at the passenger side of Snyder’s vehicle. The witness could not hear the conversation between the suspect and victim, but states that Snyder quickly moved around the front of his vehicle and stabbed Erschabek in the chest. The witness was told by Snyder not to call 911. As soon as the suspect fled from the scene, the witness was able to call for help. Erschabek was taken by ambulance to Community Hospital in Torrington, where he died.
Snyder was immediately taken into custody. Currently, he remains in the Goshen County Jail, without bail on charges of first degree murder. A hearing was scheduled for June 4th, but has been cancelled, and the defendant is being evaluated.
